Hood & Roof Racing Stripe Installation

Hood & Roof About 120 min Level 4/5 6 steps

How to lay a full-length racing stripe from nose to tail on your Porsche — the most dramatic transformation available.

Tools you will need

  • Squeegee
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Long masking tape
  • Heat gun
  • Soft cloth
  • Two assistants

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

    Mark the Centre Line

Find the exact centre of the hood and roof using a soft tape measure. Mark with masking tape at the front, middle and rear of each panel.

Pro tip: Use the front emblem and rear badge as reference points — they are factory-centred on all Porsche models.

  2. 2

    Clean All Panels

The stripe will run across hood, roof and potentially the rear lid. Clean every panel meticulously with IPA.

Pro tip: Divide the car into sections and clean one at a time to avoid contamination from footwear near the panels.

  3. 3

    Position the Hood Section

With two helpers, hold the hood stripe in position aligned to your centre marks. Tape a hinge along the leading edge.

Pro tip: Do not attempt a full-length stripe alone — you need at least one helper per panel section.

  4. 4

    Apply Hood Section

Fold back the bottom half of the stripe, peel the backing and apply from the hinge forward. Squeegee firmly toward the edges.

Pro tip: Let the vinyl relax naturally over any compound curves before squeegeeing — forcing it causes stretch marks.

  5. 5

    Transition Onto the Roof

The join between hood and roof should sit in the gap between the panels. Tuck the vinyl into the gap using a trim tool.

Pro tip: A 5cm overlap tucked into the gap is completely invisible and far more durable than a surface join.

  6. 6

    Wrap the Nose

At the front of the hood, use heat to conform the vinyl over the nose edge. Work slowly in 2cm sections.

Pro tip: This is the hardest part of the install. Take your time and use a cloth between the squeegee and vinyl to prevent scratching.
